Queensland Water Commission Securing our water together

Visitor accommodation

To help visitors save water, accommodation providers are required to clearly display water conservation information. Information must be displayed in every bathroom within an accommodation unit on the premises and in every shared bathing facility or ablution block on the premises.

Accommodation providers have until 21 December 2007 to have this information on display.

To inform visitors, the information must indicate:

  • Spend less than 4 minutes in the shower
  • Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth or shaving
  • Hang towels to minimise laundry.

Operators can choose to include additional information about energy use, such as:

  • Turn off lights and electrical appliances to save water used in power generation.

The information could also be provided to guests upon check-in and displayed in accommodation foyers and room compendiums. This also provides an opportunity for operators to promote other water efficiency measures being undertaken on the premises.
