Increase in SEQ water consumption

20 January 2012

Average daily residential water consumption across South East Queensland for the fourteen day period ending 18 January 2012 rose to 178 litres per person, Queensland Water Commission (QWC) figures show.

QWC General Manager, Regional Planning and Policy, Abel Immaraj said this compared to an average daily consumption of 171 litres per person for the last reported fourteen day period ending 11 January 2012.

Average daily consumption in Central SEQ for the fortnight ending 18 January 2012 was 158 litres per person, an increase from 148 litres per person for the fortnight ending 11 January 2012.

Average daily consumption on the Gold Coast for the fortnight ending 18 January 2012 was 221 litres per person, up from 216 litres per person for the fortnight ending 11 January 2012.

Redland's average daily consumption for the fortnight ending 18 January 2012 was 208 litres per person, an increase from 200 litres per person for the fortnight ending 11 January 2012.

Scenic Rim's average daily consumption for the fortnight ending 18 January 2012 was 158 litres per person, a rise from 149 litres per person for the fortnight ending 11 January 2012.

Sunshine Coast's average daily consumption for the fortnight ending 18 January 2012 was 217 litres per person, down from 219 litres per person for the fortnight ending 11 January 2012.

QWC takes into account population increases due to tourism for both the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast regions. Water consumption is derived based on visitor numbers sourced from Tourism Queensland and accounts for tourists staying in residential properties (with friends or family).

Tourists and visitors staying in hotels or guest houses do not impact on the weekly consumption figures, which report on residential use.
