SEQ water use drops

9 September 2011

Average daily residential water consumption across South East Queensland for the fortnight ending 9 September dropped slightly to 149 litres per person, Queensland Water Commission (QWC) figures show.

QWC General Manager, Regional Planning and Policy, Abel Immaraj said this compared with the 151 litre average for the fortnight ending 2 September.

Mr Immaraj said the QWC's regular consumption figure would now be calculated on a fortnightly basis, to better reflect actual residential water usage. Fortnightly estimates will remove variances as a result of the filling and emptying of reservoirs.

Average daily consumption in Central SEQ for the fortnight ending 9 September was 139 litres per person, down from the 140 litres per person for the fortnight ending 2 September.

Scenic Rim residents recorded 114 litres per person each day for the fortnight ending 9 September, dropping slightly from the 116 litres per person for the fortnight ending 2 September.

Sunshine Coast consumption was 163 litres per person per day for the fortnight ending 9 September, falling from the 169 litres per person for the fortnight ending 2 September.

The Gold Coast's average daily consumption was 173 litres per person for the fortnight ending 9 September, down from the 175 litres per person for the fortnight ending 2 September.

Redland's average was 166 litres per person a day for the fortnight ending 9 September, dropping from the 174 litres per person for the fortnight ending 2 September.

Spring is here and as the weather warms up, residents are encouraged to continue to use less than 200 litres per person per day. Gardens and lawns can be watered using a hand-held trigger nozzle hose or efficient irrigation system before 10am and after 4pm on any day of the week, with no watering on Mondays.

There are easy ways to keep your garden looking great this spring, while continuing to use water efficiently, like choosing water efficient plants.
