Projects

To ensure sustainable water supplies, the Queensland Water Commission is engaged in planning to:

  • develop long-term water supply strategies
  • establish a regional Water Grid
  • implement water restrictions
  • manage water demand
  • provide advice to government and
  • reform the water industry.

Projects completed and currently in operation include:

  • a pipeline water grid to linking water storages and transport water to where it is needed
  • alternative water supplies, such as desalination and groundwater
  • recycling water for a range of uses, such as industrial, irrigation and commercial purposes
  • additional water storages, such as building new dams and raising existing weirs and dams
  • retrofitting homes with water saving devices
  • reducing pressure and leaks in mains and water pipes
  • efficiently operating water storages.
