Queensland Water Commission Securing our water together

Who is delivering the project?

The Western Corridor Recycled Water Project is an integral part of the Queensland Government’s South East Queensland Water Grid. The project has the capacity to supply up to 232 million litres of purified recycled water a day. The project is supplying purified recycled water to power stations. In the future, purified recycled water will be supplied to other industrial and agricultural customers, and once combined dam levels fall below 40 per cent, to Wivenhoe Dam to supplement drinking supplies.

The Department of Infrastructure and Planning co-ordinated the project for the Queensland Government and established Western Corridor Recycled Water Pty Ltd as a Special Purpose Vehicle to manage the procurement and construction of the project.

Once construction was completed for the project, ownership and management of the project was transferred to WaterSecure—a statutory authority that also is responsible for the Gold Coast Desalination Project. The advanced water treatment plants are being operated by leading water service provider – Veolia Water Australia.

The Western Corridor Recycled Water Project is Australia’s largest recycled water project and the third largest advanced water treatment project in the world. The world’s leading engineering, construction, project management and water services companies delivered the project through a multi-alliancing framework.

Five alliances designed and built the pipelines and three advanced water treatment plants:

  • Bundamba Alliance
  • Eastern Pipeline Alliance
  • Western Pipeline Alliance
  • Gibson Island Alliance
  • Luggage Point Alliance
