Water Restrictions - Gold Coast
Gold Coast restrictions suspended
High Level Restrictions on the Gold Coast were suspended in January 2009 because Hinze Dam was at capacity. Gold Coast residents can currently use town water at any time for:
- Washing cars, trailers and boats
- General outdoor cleaning of materials and equipment
- Washing external building and paved surfaces
- Filling and topping up pools
- Watering gardens and lawns.
Regionally consistent residential water restriction from 1 December, 2009
Gold Coast will revert to regionally consistent water restrictions from 1 December 2009 regardless of the level of Hinze Dam. We have now made responsible water use a part of our daily life. Gold Coast residents are encouraged to be waterwise and use only what they need. Saving water when it is plentiful will help secure our water supplies for the future.
Non-residential customers
While the suspension of outdoor watering restrictions also applies to non-residential users, there is no relaxation of those non-residential restrictions which relate to Water Efficiency Management Plans (WEMPS), installation of water efficient devices and other permanent water conservation measures.
The following activities will be permitted:
Car Washing
- Wash rental, chauffeured and motor dealership vehicles.
- Undertake general outdoor cleaning of materials and equipment on the premises.
- Wash the external surfaces of a building or paved surfaces on the premises.
- Use town water for building construction.
- Use town water for land development, sub-divisional and associated roadwork activities including dust suppression, earthworks, road and service construction, landscaping, slope stabilisation or erosion control.
- Install and maintain irrigation systems.
- Water road reserves; government reserves; council parks.
- Fill and top up fountain or ponds; fish ponds; frog ponds; and outdoor aquariums.
- Fill and top up lakes and dams.
- Fill and top up water storage facilities; rainwater tanks; rainwater storage facilities.
