Water Efficiency Management Plans
In consultation with stakeholders, we have devised a package of measures that will deliver long-term efficiencies and savings for businesses while minimising risks to economic production and employment. The measures include business-specific Water Efficiency Management Plans (WEMPs), which will demonstrate that a business is already at best practice in water efficiency or is planning to become water efficient in the near future.
This water efficiency planning process includes three key activities for water users:
- Accounting for water use;
- Identifying water saving measures; and
- Preparing a plan to implement the identified measures.
Water Efficiency Management Plans aim to help businesses better manage water use, save on water costs, improve efficiency and reduce business water consumption - by a minimum of 25% or best industry practice - in line with regionally agreed water reductions.
Transition to annual WEMP reporting
The requirement for businesses to report quarterly to their Water Service Provider on WEMP activities ended with the report for 31 March 2009.
The first Annual Report will be for the year ending 30 October 2009 (last business day of the month). This report is due to the Water Service Provider by close of business 13 November 2009 (10 business days after 30 October).
Guidelines and tools
Guidelines have been developed to assist businesses, assessors and service providers complete the plans and drive further savings.
Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland
As a service to the Sunshine Coast business community, Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCIQ) has developed an obligation and cost-free Water Restrictions Exposure Test. By following the link below and answering a few simple questions, CCIQ's Business Sustainability advisers will assess the specific impacts of the restrictions on your business and advise what steps (if any) you need to take.
Sunshine Coast, Redlands & Scenic Rim
Medium Level Water Restrictions for non-residential water users commenced in the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Redland City Council and Scenic Rim Regional Council local government areas on 30 March 2009. The date by which non-residential water users will be required to comply with restriction requirements will vary according to water end use and/or the water consumption level.
